You store your cheap daytime solar and run the house on it through the evening peak, instead of exporting low and importing high. The WA battery rebate, stacked with the federal discount
Western Australia is one of the few states with its own battery rebate on top of the federal scheme, and the two stack.
WA Residential Battery Scheme. Synergy customers can claim up to $1,300 off a home battery, and Horizon Power customers in regional areas up to $3,800. The rebate is not means tested. To qualify, the battery must be on the approved product list, installed by an accredited installer, and enrolled in a Virtual Power Plant such as Synergy Battery Rewards. You can opt out of the VPP after two years.
Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. On top of the WA rebate, the federal scheme takes around 30 percent off the upfront cost of an eligible battery. This rate is tiered by size from 1 May 2026 and steps down every six months through to 2030, so it is at its highest now.
Stacked together, a typical Synergy household can access roughly $5,000 in combined support on a 10kWh battery, and Horizon Power customers more. If you would rather spread the remaining cost, WA also offers an interest-free loan of up to $10,000 through Plenti for households earning under $210,000.
