SolarEdge builds a closed-loop, DC-coupled storage system. The battery stores solar as DC power directly, skipping the conversion losses of an AC-coupled setup, which is why its round-trip efficiency is among the best available. The trade-off is that it works only inside the SolarEdge ecosystem, pairing with a SolarEdge inverter (Home Hub or Energy Hub). If your solar already runs on SolarEdge, adding a matching battery gives you one brand, one app, and per-panel plus cell-level monitoring in a single view.

SolarEdge Home Battery, Single-Phase (400V). A high-voltage battery for single-phase homes: 9.7 kWh usable, 5 kW continuous output (7.5 kW peak in backup), IP55-rated, and stackable up to three units per inverter for about 29.1 kWh total. Lithium-ion NMC chemistry.
SolarEdge Home Battery, Three-Phase (48V). A modular, low-voltage system for three-phase homes, built from 4.6 kWh usable LFP modules. Stack up to five per inverter for roughly 23 kWh, with up to about 95.4% round-trip efficiency and an IP65 rating for outdoor installation.

Solar is stored directly as DC, avoiding the double conversion of AC-coupled batteries, and the system supports up to 200% DC oversizing so more excess generation is captured rather than clipped.

SolarEdge was among the first residential batteries to pass the UL9540A unit-level fire-safety test. Multi-point temperature sensors monitor for overheating, and a Weather Guard feature tracks Bureau of Meteorology alerts and tops the battery to 100% ahead of severe weather so you are covered if the grid drops.
Real backup
Paired with a Home Hub inverter and the SolarEdge Backup Interface, the system runs selected circuits or the whole home during an outage, including black-start, so it can restart from 0% on solar alone once the sun returns (no grid needed to reboot). Backup is subject to local rules.
Smart control
The mySolarEdge app manages production, storage, backup and EV charging in one place, with a Rate Saver mode that prioritises discharging during peak-price windows. Wireless SolarEdge Home Network communication cuts install time and wiring.
SolarEdge battery price and the federal rebate
SolarEdge sits in the premium tier, but it is typically a little cheaper installed than a Tesla Powerwall, and it is most cost-effective when you are already using, or installing, SolarEdge solar. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes roughly 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible battery (5 kWh to 100 kWh usable), up to around $7,000 on larger eligible systems. As a CEC-accredited installer, Greenlight claims the STCs and applies the discount directly to your quote, so there is no separate application and no cheque to chase. Worth knowing:
The system must be installed by an accredited installer and, if grid-connected, be VPP-capable. SolarEdge storage qualifies.
The discount steps down roughly every six months, and the program winds down by the end of the decade, so the earlier you install, the larger the discount.

Is SolarEdge the right battery for you?
It is an excellent fit if you are installing fresh solar and want a single-brand SolarEdge system (Energy Hub inverter, optimisers and battery), or you already run SolarEdge solar and want a same-brand battery with unified monitoring. You get panel-level plus cell-level data in one app and one warranty contact.
Consider an alternative if your existing inverter is another brand. Because the SolarEdge battery is DC-coupled and SolarEdge-only, you would need to swap the inverter or choose an AC-coupled battery like the Tesla Powerwall 3, which works with almost any existing inverter (see also our Tesla battery page).
