Solar Panels Newcastle

Solar Panels & Battery Installers in Newcastle
Solar in Newcastle is not the same job as solar in western Sydney. The homes are different, the network is different, and the coastal air puts demands on hardware that inland suburbs never have to think about. Greenlight installs and maintains solar power and battery storage across Newcastle and the wider Hunter with Clean Energy Council accredited installers, so the system you pay for is sized for your roof, your bill and your part of the coast rather than a template.
Solar power in Newcastle: what local homeowners should know
Newcastle sits in the Ausgrid distribution network, the same network that runs down through the Central Coast, so the grid-connection and export-approval process here is one we handle routinely. The city falls in the federal STC Zone 3, the same rebate band as Sydney, which means a well-oriented roof in Merewether or New Lambton generates strongly across the year without the inland heat that shortens panel life further west.
What actually decides whether solar pays off in Newcastle is less about the postcode and more about how the system is specified: panel and mounting selection for a coastal setting, an inverter matched to your usage, and honest advice on whether a battery earns its place. That is where this page, and a conversation with our team, comes in.
Solar battery storage in Newcastle
More Hunter households are adding a battery to an existing or new solar system, and the reasons are practical. Newcastle’s electricity use peaks in the evening once the sun is down; a battery lets you run the house on the day’s stored solar instead of buying expensive grid power at the worst time of day. Connect it to a VPP and it can also earn you the NSW incentive and ongoing payments for exported power.
We install and configure batteries from Tesla, Sungrow and other CEC-approved brands, and we will tell you plainly if your usage pattern does not yet justify one. A battery you do not need is not a saving.
Why Newcastle homeowners choose Greenlight
We are not a call centre that sells a job and hands it to whoever is cheapest that week. Newcastle installations are carried out by CEC-accredited installers using panels and inverters from brands we stand behind: Jinko, Trina and Aiko panels, Sungrow and Enphase inverters, Tesla and Sungrow batteries.
The coastal factor matters more here than most installers admit. Homes close to the water in Newcastle East, Stockton and along the Merewether coast sit in a marine environment, where salt exposure can corrode cheap racking and degrade poorly rated panels years early. We specify components rated for that setting rather than defaulting to the same bill of materials we would use in Maitland or Cessnock. If you are comparing solar installers in Newcastle, ask each one how they handle salt-air corrosion. The answers tell you a lot.
How much do solar panels cost in Newcastle?
There is no single price, and any installer quoting one before seeing your roof is guessing. What moves the number is system size, the tier of panels and inverter you choose, whether you add a battery, your roof’s pitch and complexity, and whether your home is single or three-phase. Every figure we quote is after the federal rebates have been applied, so the price you see is the price you pay.
The honest way to size a system is around your actual bill and daytime usage, not a headline kilowatt figure. Send us a recent power bill with your free solar quote request and we will model what a system would realistically save you in Newcastle before you spend anything.

Vivek Shettigar2026-03-22Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Couldn’t be happier with Greenlight Solar in NSW. The team installed a Fox 42kW battery paired with a 10kW inverter, and 6.6kW along with DC coupling my old system to additional string and the quality of work was excellent. Everything was done efficiently, and the installation was very clean and well-organised. Kunal stood out in particular—he was honest, upfront, and gave clear advice with no pressure. It’s rare to find that level of transparency these days. Overall, a fantastic experience and I highly recommend Greenlight Solar! Edwin Moniz2025-08-14Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We installed a Sungrow solar battery 4 weeks ago to our existing 5 year old solar panel system through Greenlight. On both the occasions my experience with Greenlight has been very positive and satisfying. From design to quoting to the installation evrything has been flawless and without any stress. Amanda was amazing during the design and quoting process. Even though we went through a few changes, every change was done obligingly and promptly. Kunal, with his wealth of knowledge and willingness to share and steer you towards the best possible outcome has been instrumemtal and we ended with a "bang for our buck" system. In the 4 weeks since the system was put in, even though we had a majority of cloudy days, our projected bill for this quater has dropped from around $1200 to just around $700. Extermely happy with our experience with Greenlight and Kunal and would highly recommend them. Paul Smith2025-03-28Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My Solar System experience with Greenlight Energy Solutions was Excellent We recently (Feb-2025) had a Solar system installed. First contact on 3-Feb-2025 was with Amanda who had spent time answering my questions and running thru my wish list. Amanda then provided several quotes on the same day to give me options based on what I had asked for which initially included a battery with the Solar. Being a bit of a novice when it comes to Solar, a day later 4-Feb-2025, I called back to have further discussions around options that excluded the battery. I was then provided a couple of quote options on the same day that were close to my initial request without the battery, quotes also met my budget. Greenlight Energy Solutions were so easy to deal with and were quick to provide quotes. I got 2 other companies to quote for similar setups but found then less forth coming on details (Although they were similar pricing) I signed on 7-Feb-2025 with Greenlight who kept in contact with me giving me and organised everything It was just simple and easy to deal with. solar was installed 24-Feb-2025 and I got my first solar energy at 1pm and the reductions on my bill and first Tariff income too . Solar Module: 23 × Jinko Solar Tiger Neo Satin 440W Inverter: 1 × Sungrow Power SG8.0RT (3 phase) Over a month later I am so happy with the install and the change it has made to my electricity bill. I have also had further contacts with Greenlight Energy Solutions to have a consumption meter installed, pending and I am looking into adding a small battery in the near future. Oscar Perez2025-02-12Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Greenlight installed my 8KW system with 10KW battery at home. It worked really well and maintained good communication throughout. Would recommend. Angelo Iannarilli2024-10-04Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Exceptional Customer Service – Amanda Went Above and Beyond! I recently bought a home with Greenlight Energy Solutions solar panels, and the service I received from Amanda was exceptional. She made the switch to my name super easy, guided me through setting up the app, and explained everything in a way that was clear and straightforward. What really impressed me was how Amanda handled an issue I had with the Sungrow inverter. She reached out to the company on my behalf and stayed on top of it until the problem was fixed, keeping me updated the entire time. Her dedication and professionalism made the entire experience stress-free. If you’re looking for reliable solar energy solutions and outstanding customer service, I highly recommend Greenlight Energy Solutions—and Amanda in particular. She went above and beyond! Solar rebates and incentives in Newcastle (NSW)
There are two separate pots of money a Newcastle household can access, and they stack. It is worth understanding which is which, because some quotes blur them together.
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount takes roughly 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible battery and is applied to your quote before you pay, with no forms and no waiting for a rebate cheque. On a typical home battery that is in the order of several thousand dollars off. It applies to systems paired with solar, and the battery must be on the Clean Energy Council approved list.
The NSW Virtual Power Plant (VPP) incentive under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme is a separate payment for connecting an eligible battery to an approved VPP. It is marketed as “up to $1,500”, though the real figure depends on your battery’s usable capacity and your VPP provider, and it is paid after connection rather than deducted upfront. The old NSW upfront battery rebate closed in mid-2025, so if an installer is still quoting that, they are working from an out-of-date brochure.
On the panels themselves, the federal STC discount reduces the upfront cost of the solar system in the same way, scaled to system size and Zone 3.
Rebate rules and amounts change, and we walk every Newcastle customer through exactly what applies to their system before they commit. For the detail on how the battery incentives shifted through 2026, see our guide to the battery rebate changes, or read the full breakdown on our federal solar battery rebate page

FAQs
Which network connects solar in Newcastle?
Newcastle is in the Ausgrid distribution area. Before your system can export power, Ausgrid has to approve the connection. We lodge that application and manage the approval as part of every installation, so you do not deal with the paperwork.
Can I claim the NSW battery incentive and the federal battery discount together in Newcastle?
Yes. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount comes off your quote upfront, and the NSW Virtual Power Plant incentive is paid separately when you connect an eligible battery to an approved VPP. The two are designed to stack, provided your battery, installer and VPP pathway meet the current rules.
How much do solar panels cost in Newcastle?
It depends on system size, the panels and inverter you choose, whether you add a battery, and your roof. We quote after the federal rebates are applied, so your price is the final price. Send a recent bill and we will size it to your actual usage.
Do you install solar batteries in Newcastle?
Yes: Tesla, Sungrow and other CEC-approved batteries, with the federal discount applied to your quote and VPP connection available if you want the NSW incentive.
Is coastal salt air a problem for solar panels in Newcastle?
It can be for homes near the water in suburbs like Newcastle East and Stockton. Salt exposure corrodes low-grade racking and shortens the life of cheaper panels, so we specify components rated for marine environments where your location calls for it.
Do you service the wider Hunter and Lake Macquarie?
Yes. We install throughout Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock and Port Stephens as well as Newcastle itself. Request a quote with your address and we will confirm coverage.
